Tyrany vs. Democracy

1. Poet Joseph Brodsky,  who was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1972,  says that despite his 1987 Nobel Prize in literature, he is uneasy with fame.  "I've always preferred,"  he says,  "to be a nobody in a democracy   than a crème de la crème in a tyranny."
